Alfred (Fred) Digini Obituary

August 9, 1922 - April 13, 2016

Farewell to our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. Fred Digini fell asleep in death at the age of 93 on April 13, 2016 surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer. He will always be remembered as a generous, kind, and mild-mannered man who lovingly cared for and provided moral guidance for his family.

Fred was born in San Francisco and attended Mission High. He served in the Navy from 1942-1945 and married Grace Cosenza in December of 1945. They raised their family of 4 children in East San Jose where he coached LoBue Plaza Little League teams, bowled with Grace in leagues, was involved in PTA, a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, and where he worked as an expert carpenter. He retired from the Union in 1975 before moving to Green Valley, AZ. He finished his course in Yuba City at the Del Prado Mobile Home Park where he enjoyed bingo, swimming, clubhouse dinners, and trips to the casino with many dear friends there. He was preceded in death 3 years earlier by Grace, his wife of 68 years.

Fred loved to be with his family to Bar-be-que, play cards, dice games, and to watch sports. He will fondly be remembered for his great love of baseball, especially the Giants. He played semi-pro ball at Gilman Park, which eventually became the site of Candlestick Park. He passed on his love of the Giants to every generation of extended Digini family who continue to follow his passion closely.

Fred is survived by sons Michael (Pauline) of Santa Clara, David of Nevada; daughters Carol Rindon (Marty) of Yuba City, Mariann Nelson (Mark) of Roseville; grand children Krista, Karissa, Heather, James, Matthew, Allison, Jordan; great-grandchildren Eli, Olivia, Ella, Jacob; niece Corinne, nephew Jim, and great-niece Jennifer.

The family will hold a private Celebration of Life in the near future. Fred will be dearly missed and never forgotten by all who knew him.
