Alice Marie McGaughran Obituary

Alice, 79, was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 7, 1937 and died peacefully at home on December 11, 2016, surrounded by her loving care team.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Sadie (Remigi) Hoffman and Anton Hoffman, and her husband, Dennis McGaughran. She is survived by her friends, whom she considered family, her sister and brother-in-law, Kathy McGaughran Mathews and Bill Mathews, 5 nieces and nephews (Elizabeth, Cheryl, Bill, Michael and James) and 14 great nieces and nephews.

Alice lived life to its fullest. A woman of great faith, Alice referred to God as her best friend. She was very active in the field of recovery and passed with 46 years clean and sober. While she was a humble woman, many considered Alice "legendary" in San Francisco and Yuba City area AA and NA 12-step programs. She administered to local, regional and national 12-step meetings and conferences and was a key contributor to the early writings of NA literature. Alice was known for diving into older collected works of both recovery programs for profound "gems" that she freely shared with friends and family. Her legacy of unconditional love will continue on, as she helped so many people recover from addiction. It was not unlike Alice to offer her home and couch to those in need of some TLC and G.O.D. (Good Orderly Direction). She will be missed by many and remembered for her signature line, "keep those muscles moving".

A Memorial Service will be held January 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 3101 Colusa Hwy, Yuba City. A potluck Celebration of Life will follow in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Please bring your favorite finger food to share.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to Praise Chapel Community Church in Yuba City.
