Alvetta Nora Starr Obituary

Alvetta Nora Starr, 85, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2015 at her home in Loma Rica, CA.

"Ava" was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Carl Friend and Augusta Sylvia (Opkis) Buskirk. She helped raise her younger siblings after her mother's early death. Ava had an adventurous spirit that led her to California to pursue many passions. She owned and operated "The Purple Place" (Folsom, CA), a bar and grill in her younger days, became one of the first female truck drivers in CA, and did many other things before settling in Loma Rica as a cattle rancher and rice farmer with her husband, Levi, in 1973. Later, she worked by her husband's side as a hod carrier and co-owner of their business, Levi Starr Masonry.

Most of all, she waspassionate about her family and faith in God.

Ava is survived by her husband of 45 years, Levi Starr; her children, Karen (Ken) Clester, Dianna (Ross) Patterson, George (Dona) Starr, Eugene Starr; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Fritz, Ross (Jen) Patterson, Levi Patterson, Nora (Jason) Morton, Eli Patterson, Landen Starr; five great-grandchildren, Mason, Daisy, Ava, Grace and Lily; siblings, Vernon (Evelyn) Buskirk, David (Irene) Buskirk, Pearl (Jack) Steffensmeier; sister-in-law, Judy Buskirk and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ava was preceded by her parents, siblings, Albian (Agnes) Buskirk, Willard (Betty) Buskirk, Eveletta (Paul) Brown, Earl Buskirk and two infant brothers.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at 12:00 noon at Lipp & Sullivan Funeral Home, 629 D St., in Marysville, CA. Burial to follow at Peoria Cemetery in Browns Valley.
