Barry Michael Wilk Obituary
Barry Michael Wilk
A memorial service will be held for Barry Michael Wilk on Monday, August 4, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Elks' Club, Manzanita Place, Chico, California. Barry died at home in Durham, California on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. Born in Indiana on December 20, 1945, Barry was the third of four sons born to Thelma and Laudis Wilk.

In 1965, at the age of nineteen, Barry moved to California where he met and fell in love with Linda Rogers. They were high school sweethearts who married in 1968 and spent the next forty-six years together. They became parents to sons, Cris and Jeff, whom they raised in Durham, California. The greatest joy in Barry and Linda's life was the arrival of their granddaughters, Brooklyn, Taryn, Kiersten, and Ashlyn.

In 1974, Barry and Linda moved to Albany, California, where Barry attended U. C. Berkeley, earning his Ph.D. in Integrated Pest Management in 1980. Shortly after, Barry and Cliff Kitayama formed Scientific Methods and devoted themselves to changing the culture of pesticide use in agriculture. Barry was passionate about his work and assisted the farming community by introducing alternate methods of pest management.

When Barry was not in the orchards, he could be found on the tennis court with his amazing tennis buddies; playing basketball; playing poker with his life-long friends; or immersed in a book. He was also a familiar face at the Chico Farmers' Market selling apples and making new friends.

Barry lived life to the fullest, eagerly anticipating new adventures. He enjoyed traveling, and he hiked exotic places in the world. Barry also served as a mentor to many and embraced any opportunity to help when asked. A kind, gentle man, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Barry is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Cris (Becky) and Jeff (Deanna); his granddaughters, Brooklyn, Taryn, Ashlyn, and Kiersten Wilk. Barry is also survived by his brothers: Serge (Cheryl); Jeffrey, and Duane; as well as his mother-in- law, Eleanor Perry; and sisters-in-law, Donna (Murray) Herriman; Deborah (Robert) Castillo; Leslie Stafford; and Jacqueline (Christopher) Yourch. Many nieces and nephews also celebrate the joys Barry brought into their lives.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barry's name may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation: 230 East Ohio Street; Suite 304, Chicago, Illinois, 60611. Or online at www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.brusiefh.com.
