Obituary Condolences

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 1st 2015 at 10 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints on Spruce St. in Gridley for Beatrice Dewsnup Simmons. At 85 she passed away peacefully at Enloe Hospital with family by her side.

Bea was born January 28, 1930 in Stroud, Oklahoma and moved to Taft, California with her family at the age of seven. Her two brothers Al and Chester Pike started Richvale Repair and built the Pike Bank-out Wagon. The family moved to Gridley at that time. She graduated from Gridley High School and started working at the Virginia St. Café in Gridley where she met her husband Junior Dewsnup after he returned from WWII.

Bea and her husband were peach and pumpkin farmers in the Gridley community for many years. They operated a Peach Receiving Station for 18 years on West Liberty Road for Libby's Canary. She continued to farm after the unexpected death of her husband in 1971. She was very involved in the community and her church. She organized and cooked for many community events. Bea was a Pink Lady for the hospital and loved giving service to others. She loved going to Garden Club and nurturing her flower garden. One of her many loves was going to ballroom dances with her many friends. She demonstrated unwavering faith in her church and an immeasurable love for her family. She will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her righteous example and her love of service, kindness, and compassion toward others. Thank you for being a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Lottie Pike; her husband Junior Dewsnup, Al Bullock, and Al Simmons; her siblings, Kenneth Pike, Emma Williams, Alvin Pike, and Chester Pike; Everett Pike, and many former long time Gridley friends.

She is survived by her brother Ivan Pike; her children, Reggie Dewsnup, Conni Correa, Craig Dewsnup and Mark Dewsnup. She has 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren whom she loved very much.

A Viewing will be held at Gridley Block Funeral Chapel on Sunday, May 31st from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 1 at the LDS church at 10 a.m., with Interment following at the Gridley-Biggs Cemetery.
