Ben Morasch Obituary

Ben Morasch was born in San Francisco on March 24, 1929, and passed away on July 19, 2017. He was the youngest son born to Henry Morasch and Ruth (O'Brian) Morasch.

He attended Mission High School, San Francisco State and earned an advanced degree from the Academy of Arts in San Francisco. Ben's interest in arts remained with him throughout his life. Ben loved and devoted much time to acting and directing musical productions at Yuba City High School and Yuba College. Ben also spent much of his free time in studying painting techniques and working on original watercolors.

As many lives as he touched with his art,"Mr. Morasch", touched even more lives in his occupation. Hired to teach English in 1965, he spent nearly three decades teaching in the English Department at Yuba City High School. Those who knew Ben in the classroom discovered his passion for teaching, especially literature and student writing. The faculty found Ben to be a strong co-worker and one of the key personalities within a very engaging English Department. This group would gather, often on Friday nights, and spend time in passionate discussions of politics and social issues.

Ben also loved family. He met his wife Diana on a blind date in San Franciso. Teaching positions led them to Yuba City where they raised a family including sons Jim and Jason. Jason married Joelene and Ben became a dad to her and later a proud "Papu" to granddaughter Karis and grandson Gavin. Ben was also "Papu" to Jennifer, Xavier, Megan and Madison.

Ben had a personality that was sweet and gentle and supportive to those around him but held an inner strength. He never complained about difficulties or challenges, but instead chose to make the best of any situation. His strong example connected him to his niece Laura and nephews Marty and Kenny and "Uncle Ben" became a strong influence to them, their spouses and their children. All who knew Ben, whether through his art, his teaching, or his family, will miss him greatly.

Funeral services will be in Colma, California, at the Greek Orthodox Memorial Park at 1pm on Friday, August 4, 2017. A Memorial Service in the Yuba City area will be at the Hope Point Nazarene Church on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 11am.
