Bill Denver Poling Obituary

Bill Denver Poling, 90, long time Yuba County resident, passed away September 8, 2014 at the Lincoln Meadows Care Center in Lincoln, CA.

Born on January 4, 1924 in Bartlesville, OK, son of Samuel Emmitt and Vida Mae (Matteson) Poling. Enlisted in the U.S. Navy in WWII and served until his honorable discharge in 1946.

He spent some time in college and then worked as a surveyor in Colorado, before arriving in Marysville in 1956 to begin a career as a civil engineer with the State Department of Highways. He retired in 1971 to pursue his dream of working in Alaska, but returned to Marysville after a couple of years and worked for ACME Plastics before semi-retiring as a house painter, and later a sign painter. Many "Signs by Bill" can be seen throughout the Yuba- Sutter area.

Survived by his son, Chris Poling of Roseville, CA, daughter-in-law, Debbie (Goodwin) Poling, grandchildren, Brandon and Sarah Poling. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, who he loved dearly.

Preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bert, Don, John, and Leland Poling and sisters Mrs. Georgia Ferris and Mrs. Lois Cristy.

Services will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Lipp and Sullivan Chapel, 629 D Street, Marysville. Burial to follow at Sutter Cemetery, Sutter, CA.
