Catherine Mary Haynes Obituary

Catherine Mary Haynes, 88, of Yuba City, CA, went into the Hands of the Lord while sleeping peacefully in her bed during the early hours of January 16, 2017.

Catherine was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 10, 1928 to Albert and Gertrude Blank. After a happy childhood, she earned a BS in Library Science from Carlow College; attended graduate school at Carnegie Melon University and earned a MS. She married Herschel Haynes Jr. and traveled all over the U.S. while raising 6 children, eventually settling in Yuba City in 1970. Catherine worked as a librarian at Holy Angels and Anna McKinney School. A devoted Catholic and member of St. Isidore Parish, Catherine was deeply involved in parish ministries, especially YLI #235 of which she was a charter member, and community organizations: Girl Scouts, United Way, Community Concert and Grand Jury Duty.

Catherine loved mystery novels, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and eating peanut brittle.

She is survived by her children, Cadie Honan of Gridley, Peggy Mojica of Yuba City, Jennifer Martinez of Yuba City, Barbara Dozier of Colorado Springs, CO, Herschel Haynes III of Suffolk, VA, and Chris Haynes of Yuba City; her brothers, Al Blank, Jack Blank and Ed Blank from PA and her brother-in-law, Pete O'Connor from PA. Her family lineage grew to include 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Gertrude Blank and her sister Lois O'Connor.

Financial donations can be made to Young Ladies Institute #235.

The viewing will be held, Monday, January 23, 2017 at 5pm followed by the rosary service at 7pm in the Holycross Memorial Chapel. The funeral mass is scheduled for 10am on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at St. Isidore which is to be followed by the reception in the Parish Hall.
