Chester Stanton Geyer Obituary

May 19, 1940 -
September 15, 2017

Chester, a resident of Arbuckle, CA, passed away on September 15, 2017, at Rideout Hospital after returning from his home in the Philippines.

He was born in Colusa, CA, to Karl Geyer and Leo Beth Geyer (Wyer). He attended Arbuckle Elementary, Pierce High School and Sacramento City College. Chester was a star athlete for the Pierce Bears and went on to play football for the Panthers.

While attending SCC, he received his pilot's license and an airframe and power plant license. He enjoyed flying the family Luscombe airplane.

After completing two years at SCC, Chet was offered a football scholarship to San Jose State but attended only one semester. In 2011, he was inducted into the Colusa County Athletic Hall of Fame.

Chester married Judith Smith in 1959. Although they divorced in 1982, they remained friends.
From 1963-1981, he farmed with his brother Charles, raising sugar beets, wheat, tomatoes, beans and almonds. In that time they also formed NorCal Irrigation (which became Advanced Irrigation, Inc.) and Alsco-Geyer, Inc.

While living in Arbuckle he was an active member of the Arbuckle Volunteer Fire Dept. and also the Arbuckle Golf Club.

In 1983, he traveled to Egypt to work where he met his wife of 32 years, Josie. After several years of managing a farming operation in the Nile valley, his work took them to Malaysia.

They made many friends during these years and enjoyed traveling and new experiences. Chet took great pride in helping develop farms in these countries.

Upon retirement, Josie and Chet divided their time between Arbuckle and the Philippines, where they built their dream home. He cherished his time in the Philippines and he was lovingly cared for by many of Josie's relatives.

Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting deer, pheasants, doves and ducks. Later, he delighted in taking his grandchildren camping and fishing at Letts Lake.

Chester is survived by his wife Josie; sons, Tom (Pam), and Jim; grandchildren Rebecca Hernandez (Ignacio), David, Jeremy, Allison, Lyndsey and John; brother Charles (Doris); and sister Susie Morris (Ron).

A celebration of life will be held on October 12, 2017,11am at the Arbuckle Golf Club, 5918 Hillgate Road. Officiating: Pastor Mark Morris.

Memorial donations may be made in Chet's name to the Chester Geyer Charitable Fund at Umpqua Bank. Special thanks to the staff at Rideout Hospital
