David Dennis Van Pelt Obituary

David Dennis Van Pelt, 71, of Yuba City died on November 1st, 2017. He was born March 24th, 1946, in Long Beach, California, but moved often with his parents and three sisters as an Air Force family.

David served two tours in Vietnam as an Army pilot where he met and married his wife, Judy Edwards, an Army nurse from Nebraska. They were married for 20 years and had two children together.

David settled in Yuba City after being discharged from the Army and joined his father in the Real Estate business. David worked in Real Estate, investment and Mortgage lending over the next few decades.

One of the highlights in David's life was owning the Twin Cities Cougars. A local semi pro football team that played in the Marysville High School stadium from 1979-1982, bringing several great years of football to our area and earned a National Championship in 1980.

Over the years David enjoyed coaching youth soccer, umpiring for Sutter Buttes Little League, volunteering for Red Cross Disaster Relief and service to St. John's Episcopal Church. He was also a fantastic cook and loved spending time in his amazing vegetable garden. He was always the life of the party!

Survivors include his daughter, Caroleigh (Brian) Pierce; son, David B Van Pelt; grandchildren, Kaelyn, Megan, Jacob, and Ty; great-grandson, Logan; sisters, Janet Grant; and Barbara Frizzell. ~He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Lyle Van Pelt; and his sister and best friend, Nancy Wagster.

There will be a gathering to celebrate David on Saturday, Feb 3rd, 2018, from 1-4 pm at 1840 Columbia Drive in Yuba City. A private military burial will be held at Dixon Cemetery in the spring.
