Dee T. Allenbaugh Obituary

Dee T. Allenbaugh, age 88, of Orland, CA, passed peacefully to join his loved ones in Heaven on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at The Fountains in Yuba City, CA.

Dee was born November 25, 1926 in Dustin, OK to Lawrence and Velma Allenbaugh, and was raised on a farm during the Great Depression near Meeker, OK. He always said that they were lucky because they grew plenty of food to feed their family, and never had to be hungry. They were a poor family but they had a lot of love and laughter in their house. He attended school in Meeker and after graduation, he enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1944. He served on The Cheyenne, off the coast of Alaska, until his Honorable Discharge in 1946.

He then returned to the family home in Oklahoma, but soon migrated to California with his parents and siblings, where they settled in Olivehurst. He met and married Ruby Ragan in 1947 and they had two children together, Lawrence Ray, born 1948, and Connie Mae, born 1952. They later divorced. In 1965, he met and married Leora Moore, the single mother of two small boys who came to know him as Dad. They had a happy and successful marriage until her untimely death in 1978. In 1979, he was married to Anna Belle Christy of Yuba City, CA. They had many happy years together and shared a love of gardening. He delighted in operating a small produce stand each summer and selling his fresh produce to all who stopped by. He loved meeting people and was known for his quick wit and outrageous stories!

He worked in construction most of his life, building and remodeling beautiful homes and churches. He belonged to the Carpenter's Union, Laborer's Union, Teamsters and the Operating Engineers. He also worked on the Oroville Dam Project and retired from the Yuba Placer Goldfields operation in Marysville, CA, in 1989.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Velma Allenbaugh; his wife Leora Allenbaugh; his son Lawrence "Larry" Allenbaugh; his step-son Donnie Christy; his sister Juanita Nelon, and his brother Warren "Uppie" Allenbaugh.

Dee is survived by his wife, Anna Belle of Orland, CA; his daughter, Connie O'Rourke (Toney) of Yuba City, CA; step-son Marcus Moore (Lori) of Gainsville, FL; step-son Larry Moore of Mangum, OK; step-daughter Lenore Yancy (Melvin) of Orland, CA; step-daughter Nancy Nunes (Ted) of Marysville, CA; step-son Gary Christy (Sheri) of Fresno, CA; brother, Melbourne Allenbaugh (Velma) of VanBuren, AR and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews who love him very much.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of The Fountains and Sutter North Hospice, who showed such gentleness and compassion toward Dad in his final days.

Services will be held at a later date in Shawnee, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel of Yuba City, CA and Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee, OK. Memorial donations may be sent to The CJD Foundation, 341 W 38th, Street, Ste. 501, New York, NY 10018.
