Doris Iola Kanen Obituary

Doris Iola Kanen, 88, of Yuba City, CA, passed away on April 29, 2016 from heart failure. She was born on April 25, 1928 in Santa Barbara, CA.

Doris loved quilting, knitting, crocheting and sewing. She loved music and played he organ and piano. She loved her mountain home on a creek in Brownsville. She loved the rain and enjoyed entertaining friends and family and playing games. She loved antiques and filled her home with beautiful glass and furniture. In 1966, as a single mother, she moved to Pacific Union College so that her children could obtain a Christian education.

Doris was an active member of the Brownsville Seventh Day Adventist Church for 15 years where she played the organ and piano.

Doris graduated from Loma Linda Academy in 1946 and in 1978 she graduated with her nursing degree from Pacific Union College. She worked at Veterans Home in Yountville, as a nurses aid, and after obtain her nursing degree, she was the head of Central Supply until her retirement in 1989.

She married Donald Mayfield in 1950 with who she had four daughters: Jennifer Mayfield of Spokane, WA, Debbie King of Parker, CO, Janice Mayfield of Lodi, and Druscilla Covington of Yuba City, CA. She is also survived by two step-daughters, Denice Abston of Reno, NV and Marlene Savage of Ridgefield, and two step-sons, Donald Kanen of Alamosa, CO and David Kanen of Linton, IN, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband Warren Kanen, parents Francis and Alice Dinsmore, her sister June Duerksen, and her brother Joseph Bringle.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at 3:00pm June 4, 2016 at the Brownsville SDA Church in Brownsville, CA. In lieu of flowers a donation can be sent Yuba City Seventh Day Adventist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Lipp & Sullivan Funeral Directors, (530) 742-2473
