Frances Etchepare Obituary

Frances Marie (Dunning) Etchepare
Frances Marie (Dunning) Etchepare died peacefully at her home in Maxwell, California on July 12, 2013. Frances (Fran) was born May 15, 1926 to Willis and Bertha Dunning of Colusa, California.

Fran moved to Stockton with her father Willis after her mother's death in 1934 where she attended local schools and graduated from the Maude Cornell's Business College.

After returning to Colusa, Fran married Leon W. Etchepare, son of Leon and Micaela Etchepare on August 29, 1948 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church in Colusa, California and shared two children, Allen and Jeanmarie .

Fran was a member of many organizations including Children's Home Society, Colusa Theatre Foundation, Colusa Regional Medical Auxiliary Volunteers, and was named to the Colusa Regional Medical Center Board of Directors and the Foundation Board at which time she helped with the fundraising to save the hospital.

Most recently Fran was pleased to contribute to the restoration of Etchepare Hall, a hall on the Colusa County Fairgrounds named after her late husband, Leon.

Fran enjoyed gardening, art, theatre, playing bridge with her friends and was a voracious reader as she read at least three newspapers daily, a multitude of other periodicals, business journals and at least two to five books a week.

She loved to travel with family and friends and was able to visit Spain, France, Russia, Africa, Turkey, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Mexico and China as well as visiting many locations in the United States.

Fran was proud to be involved in the agricultural industry and was actively involved in the family business, Emerald Farms, which was named after her birthstone.

Fran is survived by her son Allen Etchepare and daughter Jeanmarie Etchepare of Colusa, grandson Leon Etchepare of Maxwell, sisters in law B.J. Etchepare of Colusa, Lois Etchepare of Maxwell and numerous nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her loving husband Leon, parents Willis and Bertha Dunning, and brothers in law Sam and Joe Etchepare.

A "Sunset Tribute" will be held for Frances on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 6:00 pm. Please call 530-438-2133 or email [email protected] for the location.

We were sorry to hear of Fran's death, but pleased to know that she was able to die peacefully at home. She was clearly a remarkable woman, who lived a very fulfilling life. We all hope to be so blessed!

Unfortunately, we will have young grandchildren here with us at the time of Fran's "Sunset Tribute," so we won't be able to join you, but want to share our condolences with you now.
