Harbhajan Singh Takher Obituary

It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Harbhajan Singh Takher. He passed away on September 30, 2017, peacefully and surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 25, 1926, in the village of Shankar, located in the state of Punjab, India, to his parents Parkasha Singh Takher and Tej Kaur. He was the second eldest of five children, Rasham Kaur, Udham Singh, Sukhdev Singh, and Jogindero Kaur.

Harbhajan Singh married Harbhajan Kaur Samra in 1947. He later immigrated to the United States on February 8, 1950, to work at Border Island in Lodi, California. After several years, he moved to Yuba City to farm his uncle's land for the next 17 years.

His wife and eldest son joined him in May of 1956. While he continued to farm, he purchased land from his uncle, this was the beginning of his life as a farmer. The farm was his legacy, filled with countless family memories.

Harbhajan Singh loved working in his garden alongside his wife, going on his daily morning walks, eating ice cream, drinking whiskey, watching television especially westerns, and he loved working in the orchards most of all.

Harbhajan Singh is survived by his loving wife, Harbhajan Kaur Takher.

He leaves behind his three sons, Harinder (Bhupinder, daughter in-law), Harminder (Surinder, daughter in-law), Mukhtiar (Ravinder, daughter-in-law); eight grandchildren, Sunny, Robby, Kiren, Raman, Keetha, Puneet, Chundun, Symren; eight great-grandchildren; and his sister,
Harbhajan Kaur Mann.

Service will be conducted Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at 11am at Ullrey Memorial Chapel. Final prayers will follow at the Dashmesh Hall, Tierra Buena Sikh Temple in Yuba City.
