Ivan Christopher Willis Obituary

January 29, 1970 - April 17, 2016

Ivan Willis, Plumas Lake resident, avid member of youth and adult soccer leagues, passed away unexpectedly due to a heart attack on Sunday, April 17, 2016 with his wife, Denise, by his side. He was 46 years old.

Ivan was born in Pasadena, Ca to Ronald Willis and Loretta Joyce Willis. He attended elementary school through high school in San Ramon, CA. He graduated from California High School in 1988, where he participated on the Varsity Soccer team. His ability to motivate and coach others led him to a career at several companies; most recently holding leadership roles at Sprint Wireless and T-Mobile where he built a strong network of highly motivated individuals and successful teams. Ivan married longtime childhood friend and love, Denise Ann Yamaguchi and became a stepfather to William Edward Ericksen (age 18) who was 3 years old at the time. They later welcomed two more children, Aliya Joyce Willis (age 12) and Christopher Douglas Willis (age 9). Ivan gave back to the community by actively participating in his children's soccer leagues, coaching several teams. He was able to easily capture young children's attention and lead them to championship games. While he wasn't coaching he was rooting for the kids on the side lines. His final days were spent doing what he loved the most - enjoying time with his family, watching and coaching his kids on the soccer field and spending leisure time at home with his wife, Denise. Ivan continued to play soccer as an adult and participated on several teams over the years. He was always a leader and team favorite.

Ivan is preceded in death by his mother, Loretta Joyce, and is survived by his wife Denise, his children William, Aliya, and Christopher; his father Ronald and wife Billie, and his two younger brothers Eric Willis, Craig Willis and sister Jonni Markel Sykes.

The memorial service will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 1028 Marcum Rd, Nicolaus, on Monday, April 25th at 11:00 A.M, with the burial and reception to follow. All are welcome to join the celebration of Ivan's life.
