John Doyle Simpson Obituary

July 22, 1930 - July 17, 2016

John Doyle Simpson was the best husband and father a woman and child could ask for: Loving. Giving. A good provider. He was a constant rock for his family. He never strayed from the straight and narrow; he always took the right path. John created wonderful memories for his family through our travels. He took us camping and, as a family, traveled all 49 continental states and Canada.

John was born in Chicota, Texas to Leona and Odom Simpson. He was the oldest of two children. In 1943, his family moved to Joplin, Missouri, where as a kid during World War II he sold newspapers and shined shoes. After high school, he served in the Missouri Army National Guard for two years, then joined the Air Force where he served 25 years. He was assigned tour of the of duty in Mississippi, Japan, Germany, Thailand, Alaska, Texas and California.

After retirement from the Air Force as Master Sergeant, he went to Yuba College and earned his B.A. in Business. He started his own Honey Bee business and retired from that business in 1990. He was a member of the Corinthian-Hammonton Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Ben Ali Shrine Temple in Sacramento. John met the love of his life and future wife Nettie Black while they were both working in Joplin, Missouri. John and Nettie were married in 1951.

John and Nettie celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in March with family.

John and Nettie are survived by 4 children: Cynthia (Grob), Karen (Engle), John Simpson, and June (Lee); five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
