John Joseph Polit passed away at the age of 83 years old on October 29, 2015 at Enloe Hospital in Chico, CA, after a gallant struggle against his untimely automobile accident. John was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.

John was the first born of his four siblings to Eugene and Marie Polit in Colusa, on October 12, 1932. His parents had emigrated to the U.S. from the Basque country along the border of France and Spain.

John attended school in Maxwell before serving in the 11th Airborne Division 503 and 504 Airborne Infantry Regiment as a paratrooper.

He is survived by his children, Randy Polit, Mike and Sherry Polit, Terri and Jim Auld, Leslie and Janet Hase, Paul and Laura Hase, Katherine and Don Altnow and Eddie and Teisha Hase. His siblings; Mary Godfrey, Sam Polit, Paul Polit and Michaela Polit. As well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

While working for GCID Water District, John was also a sheep and cattle rancher and did so for many years until he found his devotion as a rice farmer. John lived his life as a hardworking man, dedicated to farming all the way until his last days. When asked, "When do you plan on retiring?" his answer was "How can I retire from something I love doing?"

John was actively involved at the Maxwell Fire Department, American Legion Post 218, Willows Elks Lodge, chairman of the Maxwell Rodeo and a team member on the Men's Sports League.

John loved Jeep rides, camping, visits to Fort Bragg and Crescent City with his wife, but above all, loved to go out dancing where he met the love of his life, Dorothy.

John was preceded in death by his father and mother, Eugene and Marie Polit; brother Charlie Polit; his wife Dorothy Polit and his grandson Jarred Polit.
