Juanita Virgen Torres Obituary

Juanita Virgen Torres passed away on September 26, 2014. She was born to Leonardo and Jovita Virgen on May 6, 1921, in Sonora, TX. She graduated from Elliot High School and married the love of her life, the late Apolonio Torres, on January 10, 1942. Together they ventured out throughout the states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado, working their way to California. Eventually, along with their five children, they settled in Santa Clara County, where they both secured employment. Upon Juanita retiring from Libby's Cannery, the two chose to move to Ceres, CA, to enjoy their small farm. From there, they moved to Yuba City to be close to family.

Juanita or "Nana", as she was affectionately called by her nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren, accepted everyone with unconditional love and was always at the center of the family. One always felt her warmth and caring and her eyes would twinkle with joy whenever her grandchildren and great grandchildren would visit. She was a master at sewing and her Mexican cooking has yet to be matched. She enjoyed gardening and her yard was planted with many varieties of roses, vegetables, and fruit trees. It was a delight to see her get excited whenever she watched her novellas. She enjoyed going to flea markets, and having garage sales. She cherished the evenings when her children visited and gathered around the kitchen table to play board games until late hours. One of her spiritual satisfying experiences was her visit to Jerusalem.

Juanita is survived by five children: Apolonio (Jeanie) Torres, Jr., Nellie (Ramon) Flores, Molly (Gary) Walraven, Mimi (Mike) Coleman, and Nancy (Sal) Torres-Ayala, eleven grandchildren: Danny Mitchell, Margie, Lisa, Johnny, David, Eric, Nia, Alex, Kristy and Ben and 21 great grandchildren.

Mom, we love you so much. Your eternal love will continue to grow and flourish in our hearts.

The viewing and rosary will be held on Monday, October 6, 2014 at the Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond St., Yuba City from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The family extends a sincere appreciation to the Rideout Hospice individuals who provided exceptional care and support.
