Kirk Kelleher Obituary

Kirk Kelleher died on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, after suffering a stroke at home on Monday. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Kirk was 51 years old.

He is survived by his life partner, Mary Valdez, their son Santino Valdez (Maria), and their grandchild Mateo. Kirk is also survived by his brother Peter Kelleher (Lara) and his sister Cynthia Kelleher.

Kirk grew up in Colusa and attended local schools where he made lifelong friends. He had many adventures with them, including flying radio control airplanes, shooting guns, and driving his Baja Bug.

Kirk and Ken Meyers (Stephanie) were especially close; out of 365 days in a year they were probably together for 360 when they were young. Ken's family opened their hearts and home to Kirk and became family too. Ken's mother, Janice, loved Kirk so well that she even warmly remembers food fights.

He graduated from Colusa High School in 1985 and then later graduated with a degree from CSU Chico. He then started a paint store with his brother, Peter Kelleher, in 1994. He was Peter's brother, best friend and business partner. He made every day better.

Kirk enjoyed sixteen good years with Mary and Santino. Kirk and Santino often went hunting and fishing together. Kirk loved hiking with friends, camping in the teardrop trailer that he built himself, competing in cast-iron cook-offs, gourmet cooking, grocery shopping expeditions, and backyard bonfires.

Kirk was an active member of our community. He participated in the local Chamber of Commerce, was a Mason, and was serving his third term as a City Council Member. Kirk worked hard to make our community a better place.

Thank you to all of you who have surrounded us with your love and help, and for sharing our grief. This has meant more than we can ever say. We would especially like to thank the local first responders who kept vigil with us at the local hospital. Kirk could never have recovered from his stroke, but their loving and efficient care gave us time with him to say goodbye. We will always be grateful for their help. The staff at Mercy San Juan Hospital's ICU also treated all of us with loving consideration during the hardest of times.

We will celebrate Kirk's life on Saturday, January 27, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Festival Hall at the Colusa County Fairgrounds. Pulled pork sandwiches and chili will be served, and you are welcome to bring a side dish or dessert to share.
