Terri, Sherri and family my heart is saddened to hear of the loss of your father. I remember when we (all of us) were kids and our fathers were working together for the Sheriff's dept. Since then we grew up and I ended up working along side Lance but across the river. Lance was a good man and a great Deputy. I remember from time to time running into him and we would exchange our usual questions about the family. He will be missed by us here on earth, but now he is in heaven probably having a DONUTE with my dad. I will keep you lifted in my prayers. God Bless and I love you all.

To Lance's family,
I am so saddened to learn of Lance's passing. I hadn't been in contact with Lance in many years, but his parents and mine were best friends and I have great memories of the many, many times our families spent together when we were kids. Although I didn't know of his career or volunteer work, I wasn't surprised to read the comments of what an outstanding person he was in both of those capacities.
My husband & I will be praying for you all as you go through this very difficult time. We are so very sorry; Lance was way too young.

Although I worked for Yuba City PD, I got to know Lance and was able to call him my friend. Lance was one of the finest police officers I ever knew and as a brother Viet Nam Veteran I am proud of the hard work he did for the Yuba/Sutter area veterans. Welcome home Bro and may you rest in eternal peace.

When John Arnold told me "Lanciepie" had left us, I started thinking about 11-98s at 7th and Olivehurst and shaking dice at the Park Hotel. I will never forget his famous Superbowl Parties, especially the one in 1980. The last time I saw Lance was at our 40th high school reunion. That was six years ago and I wondered where the time went. So, Lance, I will miss you and hope we can 11-98 again some day in a better place than 7th and Olivehurst. God be with you.

Sgt. Lance Ayers was my first FTO. He was smart, kind and courageous. He never backed down from anyone. He was a good guy and I am saddened by his passing.

My next-door neighbor and childhood friend…
That shock of curly blond hair - your freckled face…
That mischievous manner and devilish grin…
All these memories and more came flooding back
as I read with great sorrow of your passing.

Goodbye Sir, Your family should be proud of all that you have done to affect people in a positive way, which I am sure they are. As a veteran myself, I thank you , as the organizer of the Historical Faire, I thank you, as the guy that helped take the Katrina Supplies back east, I thank you for ensuring the cots and ditty kits got to the folks that needed them. This area is less with your loss. To your family, I hope you know how much good he did in his life and how many people he helped.

Lance was a hell of a cop you could always count on. I worked many a shift with him and always respected his judgement and professionalism. He was noted for his knowledge of the street and a memory of names for everyone he came in contact with.
Rest in peace my friend.
