Letitia G. (Tish) Briggs Obituary

Letitia (Tish) G. Briggs, 77, of Lenexa, KS, born January 24, 1938 in Sacramento, CA, lost her courageous battle against Fallopian tube cancer on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

Tish--often described as a lovely, sweet, and caring person--retired from the San Joaquin Environmental Health Department in October 2001 where she had worked for 13 years. Prior to her employment with the Health Department, Tish earned a Bachelor's Degree in Food Science from the University of California-Davis, worked for NAAS Foods creating a quality control department, and was a homemaker. Following her retirement, Tish unselfishly provided in-home care and assistance to her mother in Dillon Beach, CA.

Tish was a remarkably talented seamstress, creating clothing for herself, her daughters, and other family members and friends. Tish's true gift, however, was in the preparation of meals, where her patient and tireless efforts resulted in mouthwatering dishes for friends and family alike. In addition to her passion for cooking, Tish enjoyed reading, genealogy research, jigsaw puzzles, playing Scrabble, participating in Bunco with her friends, and traveling. As a military spouse, she was on the move creating homes for her family in multiple locations while traveling to Asia, Europe, and throughout the United States, with Maryland being one of her favorite places. After relocating from California to Kansas in 2007, Tish became a faithful member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Overland Park, which she described as one of the best decisions she ever made.

Tish was preceded in death by her father James Briggs and mother Dolores (White) Brubeck, one brother, James (Jiggsy) Briggs; one sister, Lesley Briggs; and two sisters-in-laws, Beverly and Janet.

Surviving are her children, David (Marlene) Resch, Jr. of Eugene, OR; April (Michael) Morthland of Glen Carbon, IL; and Christine (Ed) Caseres of Olathe, KS; four grandchildren, Nick Hook of Changsha, China; Michael Hook of Santa Cruz, CA; Jennifer Caseres of Pasadena, CA; and Matt Caseres of Birmingham, AL; four brothers, Milton Briggs of Carmichael, CA; Bruce (Susie) Brubeck of Eugene, OR; and Alan (Micki) Brubeck of Sutter, CA; Bob Briggs (Jenny) of Folsom, CA; three sisters, Francie Brubeck of Livermore, CA; Karen (Andy) Molina of Sacramento, CA, and Norma Lou Houghland; eight nieces, four nephews, six great-nieces, 4 great-nephews, and many friends, colleagues, and extended family members.

Tish wished to express special thanks to her Doctors and Nurses at KU Cancer/Med Centers and Dr. Thomas Fulbright, Lenexa Neighborhood friends, Lenexa Senior Center exercise group friends, Lakeview Village friends and staff, her fellow Grace Covenant Presbyterian members and Pastors for their care, love, and friendship.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Overland Park, KS. Condolences may be expressed online to the family at Caring Bridge website for Letitia Briggs. Tish donated her body to KU, she loved learning and education and felt strongly that her last donation would make a difference. Tish supported many organizations over the years, particularly PBS and the National Park Service.

A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service was held on Sunday, March 29th 2015 at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Overland Park, KS, with Rev. Kimby Young and Rev. Jonas Hayes officiating.
