Levi Starr Obituary

Levi Starr, 89, passed away on May 30, 2016 at Marysville Post Acute after a short illness. Levi was born in Redwater, Texas on February 2, 1927 to Lemuel Secil and Mamie (Stokes) Starr. In World War II, he joined the army and became a paratrooper. Like many that grew up during the depression, he was hard driven and work was always a priority. That sense of survival carried on through the rest of his life, even in his home life. Gardening, raising animals, having fresh milk and eggs was an important factor in his life.

Levi was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Alvetta Nora Starr. Levi and Ava were brought into the area by their Trucking business through dispatcher Wayne Bailey. Levi was a popular brick mason in our area and he was always running into someone that said, "Oh you laid my brick". Having his wife by his side was always a key to his success. The two of them established a well-known mason business in the Yuba-Sutter area known as Levi Starr Masonry and also became very prominent rice growers.

Levi is survived by his children: Melvin (Sharon) Starr, Elaine Starr, Karen (Ken) Clester, Clyde Starr, Linda Starr, Dianna (Ross) Patterson, George (Dona) Starr, Eugene Starr, and Victor Starr; many grandchildren (in this area: Ross (Jen) Patterson, Levi Patterson, Nora (Patterson) Jason Morton, Elisha Patterson and Joel Starr; and many-many great-grandchildren.

Levi is also survived by his siblings, Amos (Sue) Starr, Leona Starr, Royce Starr, and James (Ellen) Starr. Levi was preceded by his parents Lemuel and Mamie Starr; siblings Elijah Starr, David Starr, John Starr, Martha (Starr) Weatherbee, Mark Starr and Llloyd Starr; daughter Lila Starr; and granddaughter Sandra Starr.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 4 at 10:00a.m. at Lipp & Sulivan Funeral Home, 629 D St., Marysville CA. Burial is to follow at the Peoria Cemetery on Marysville Rd. in Browns Valley.
