Lonnie R. Long Obituary

Lonnie R. Long, died May 13, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. He was born on December 9, 1944 to Richard and Lillian Long (McDaniel).

Lonnie was known as a man that was larger than life. Everyone knew him as "Boogie" (mostly because of his ability to sing and play the guitar like Elvis) and "Shoestring" for his tall, thin and handsome stature). Lonnie worked as a general contractor and owned his own business, C & L Refrigeration in the Yuba Sutter area for 20+ years. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Brinkley Bass and was a Vietnam veteran. In his retirement years he loved to fish, fish and fish. His favorite pastime was spending most of his time on the water, yes fishing. He loved boating, camping, gardening, hunting and spending time with his family and he was the "Greatest" example of a father. From an early age he taught us to waterski (by putting us in the lake and telling us we could get back into the boat once we got up on the skis), cook chili in the can over a campfire and eat it out of the same can, wash our hair in a freezing cold creek, pull weeds, hunt in the snow up to our neck when we stepped out of the motorhome and use duct tape to fix everything (which is banned in my household now). He was the best at telling a story and made sure you heard it at least ten times. Most of all he taught us, his children how to love and to set an example of how to be an amazing parent. He was a great father and Papa, known to all of us as our "hero". To know him was to love him and he will be greatly missed by many.

Lonnie is survived by his best friend and companion, Jeryl Mandeville of Woodland, CA, two sons, Lonnie R. Long and Michael Long of Marysville, CA, two daughters Julia Noble of Yuba City, CA and Michelle Long of Sacramento, CA, fourteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lillian Long, brothers, Bobby Long and Sammy Long and his sisters, Janice Parker and Nellie Wells.

A special thank you to the Vitas Hospice in Sacramento for their loving care and support.

A graveside service will be held at Sutter Cemetery on June 15, 2018 at 11:00 am with a gathering at Faith Tabernacle Church, 760 Spiva Ave, Yuba City, CA following the service.

There will be a "Celebration of Life" and potluck at Stingrayz Marina, 23000 Cranmore Rd, Knights Landing, CA 95645 on June 16, 2018 from 11:00 am to 3 pm.
