Mamoru (Mori) Tanimoto Obituary

Mamoru (Mori) Tanimoto, 95, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2015, surrounded by family by his bedside. For the last nine years, he was a resident of The Courtyard in Yuba City, where he was a much loved resident volunteering as their unofficial photographer.

A native of Gridley, CA, Mori farmed with his family until WWII forced them to be incarcerated in Tule Lake Internment Camp. After the War, he began farming with his brothers, Jim and George, The Tanimoto Brothers, farming peaches and prunes, and later pioneering the kiwi business in the United States.

He was a dedicated fan of the San Francisco Giants and the Sacramento Kings. Mori enjoyed fishing and photography and was an avid bowler having spent many happy years in various leagues and participating in tournaments.

He was a member of the Gridley Lions Club where he was Lion of the Year twice as well as serving as club President. He was also a member of Sons in Retirement.

Survived by daughters Naomi Lopes (Steve), Sharon Kuroda (Gary), Pennie Bissell (Dennis); sister Eva Kojima, brother Jim Tanimoto; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife June; granddaughter Jenna; sister Shizuko Matsumoto; brothers Mike, Jack and George.

Memorial services will be held at the Marysville Buddhist Church, Marysville, CA, at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 28, 2015.
