Marilyn Alice (Bradshaw) Waltz Obituary
Marilyn Waltz, 88, a fourth generation of Wheatland, passed away July 10, 2017 in Yuba City, CA, after a long illness and battle with MDS Leukemia.

Marilyn was born July 23, 1928 in Marysville, CA, at Rideout Hospital, the daughter of Lawrence W. "Jack" Bradshaw and Jeannette Brock Dunn Bradshaw. Both parents were from early day farming families. Later, Marilyn was joined by two brothers, Willard and Robert.

Marilyn was raised on the Bradshaw Ranch six miles north of Wheatland. She attended Wheatland schools and graduated from Wheatland High School in 1946. While in High School, she was a member of the school band, played sports and was president of her senior class. Graduating from Yuba College in 1948, she worked for the State of CA Motor Vehicle Dept. for several years and was also secretary for the local chapter of the CA State Employees Association.

Through her years, she found time to teach swimming, be a community 4-H and horse leader for 15 years, chairperson of the Wheatland Pet Parade for 20 years and was awarded life membership in P.T.A. She served on the Wheatland Elementary School Board, was a charter member of the Wheatland Junior Guild and Historical Society. She was the secretary/ treasurer for Wheatland Water District for 35 years, a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West and was a lifetime member of the Appaloosa Horse Club and the Twin Cities Riding Club. Marilyn was also president of the Yuba Sutter Cattlemen's Association and was an Ombudsman helping to advocate right of residents in Convalescent hospitals, board and care homes.

In 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Price Madison (Spike) Waltz, the boy from the ranch next door. In 1949, she and Spike moved to the Waltz Ranch east of Wheatland where she lived until her death. They had two children, David and Martha Waltz. Spike and Marilyn grew various crops including almonds, beans and hay. They also had hogs, sheep, horses and cattle. Spike and Marilyn were able to enjoy several trips to Europe, Hawaii and Mexico. They also enjoyed spending time with their many friends and family members.

Spike met an untimely death in 1986 due to a farming accident. Marilyn, being the farmer's daughter and then farmers's wife, was left to continue on with the almonds and cattle. After selling the almonds, Marilyn began building her commercial and registered cattle herds. She was always an avid horse person and continued to enjoy horse activities through her life. One of her greatest joys was teaching her granddaughters Mindin and Madilyn to ride horses and also to show cattle.

Marilyn took great pride in both her family's and Spike's family heritage and ancestry. She always said that, "the secret to life is to keep going and going" and she felt like "The Little Engine That Could" and could do most anything if she thought she could. She was truly one of the pioneers of Wheatland and will be greatly missed by so many.

Marilyn is survived by her son David (Diane) Waltz, daughter Martha Waltz, granddaughters, Mindin Reid (Cory), Madilyn Ferguson, and great-granddaughter Penny Reid. She also is survived by her two brothers, Willard and Robert (Cathi) Bradshaw and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her beloved dogs, Buddy, Sophie, Molly and Rusty will miss her greatly.

She was preceded in death by her husband Price "Spike" Waltz and her parents Jack and Jeannette Bradshaw.
