Marilyn Winship Smith Obituary

Marilyn, a descendant of a Sutter County pioneer family, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 14, 2014, from complications of Alzheimer's. She was 86.

Marilyn Rose Winship was born in Yuba City on July 22, 1928, to Edwin and Marie Winship. She attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Yuba City High. She loved family gatherings, gardening and music. Her accordion playing is remembered fondly.

Marilyn married Bill Cleveland in 1947, and for a time, they worked together at KUBA in Marysville. They had one daughter, Sharon Marie. In 1955, Marilyn married Siegfried Baur. Together, they established Comet TV on Plumas Street. They had one daughter, Heidi Suzanne. Marilyn married T. Mark Smith in 1969. She retired in 1993 from Huntley-Sheehy Insurance in Marysville, where she was a bookkeeper. She was a past president of the local chapter of Business and Professional Women, a member of the Eastern Star and the Elks Club.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Dick Winship. She is survived by her husband, T. Mark Smith; her sister, Mitzi Morrison; her daughters, Shari Coats (Robert) and Heidi Erickson (Karl); granddaughters, Liz, Anne and Mary Coats; grandson, John Erickson; five great-grandchildren; niece, Linda Morrison; nephews, Ric and John Morrison and their families.

For those who were close to her, whether they called her Marilyn, Rosie, Auntie or Grammy, she is missed and remembered with love.

Per her wishes, there will be no services. Donations in her memory can be made to either , 1528 Chapala Street, Ste. 204, Santa Barbara, CA 93101 or the Sutter County Community Memorial Museum, 1333 Butte House Road, Yuba City, CA 95993.
