Marjorie Nelson Obituary

Marjorie Nelson, 86, passed away June 16, 2018 in Davis, CA after a short illness. She moved to Yuba City with her husband Don Nelson in 1951 and lived there until 2016.

When her children were young she was a housewife and community volunteer serving as PTA president at Park Ave School, Camp Fire Girls leader, Blue Bird leader and Cub Scout den mother. Later she worked in the Sutter County Tax collector office.

She loved going to Camp Me Wa Hi Camp Fire Camp in the summers with her daughter and later granddaughters where her nickname was the "Black Fairy." As a camp counselor she fearlessly hiked to Lake Colburn, the top of Dead Man's Peak, and the Sierra Buttes lookout tower with her campers. She liked to travel with a travel trailer around the country visiting National parks and other points of interest. She also enjoyed cruises, going to Tahiti, Alaska, New York, Boston Harbor, Saint John, and Halifax. She loved babies, dogs, chocolate, singing, the ocean, romance novels with happy endings and her family.

Her husband, Don, preceded her in death in 2009. She is survived by her 3 children: Timothy Nelson, Daniel Nelson and Susan Nelson-Kluk; 7 grandchildren: Jessica Melo, Lisa Hembree, Jacob Nelson, Sonya Redican, Amanda Andel, Emily Nelson and Andrea Nelson; and 8 great grandchildren: Giuseppi Melo, Caterina Melo, Conner Hembree, Parker Hembree, Nathan Redican, Benjamin Fernandez, Christopher Fernandez, and Colton Nelson.

As Marj wished, the family gathered to remember her and scattered her ashes in the ocean on July 27, 2018. Donations in her name can be made to Sutter Hospice.
