1923 - 2015 Obituary Condolences

Mavis Thompson, 91, passed away June 20, 2015 in Chico, CA. She had lived in Chico for the past 2 years, having previously lived in Red Bluff, Paradise, and Yuba City. She was born in Clearfield, SD on July 12, 1923 and moved to California in 1936. Her family moved to Idaho in 1937. She graduated from high school in Bonners Ferry, Idaho in 1941 as valedictorian of her class.

She retired in 1988 from Pacific Scientific in Monrovia, CA where she had been a Word Processor in the Engineering Department. Previous to that time she had worked at the Claremont Colleges of Pomona College and Claremont McKenna College. She had also worked for the Physical Plant Department of California Institute of Technology. Before moving back to Southern California, she was co-owner of a Western Auto store in Red Bluff, CA for 13 plus years.

While in Paradise, she served as an Ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce for five years. She had also been a member of Business and Professional Women's Organization for twenty plus years, having served as club president for three terms. She traveled extensively covering all 50 states (except North Dakota), Spain, all of Continental Europe, Norway, Iceland, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Bahama Islands, Panama Canal, and parts of Canada.

Her love was Music. She sang with various choirs and choral groups through the years. She also played the piano and organ, and in later years played the piano for Assisted Living Homes.

She is survived by a daughter, Carole Thompson, and a grandson, Alex Thompson, of Thousand Oaks, CA.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Alice Thompson; her parents; a brother; and two sisters.

A memorial Mass will be held at Our Divine Savior in Chico CA on Wednesday July 1, 2015 at 1pm. Afterwards her cremains will be inurned at Clearfield, SD, in a family plot at St. Boniface Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to City of Hope, Buarte, CA or St. Judes Hospital in care of Newton-Bracewell Funeral Homes. Share thoughts and memoires of Mavis online at nbcfh.com.
