Melvin A. Baucom Obituary

Mel Baucom, 83, of Hallwood, went to be with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, on November 18, 2017, surrounded by his family. Mel was born at home on June 11, 1934, in Indian Trail, NC, the fourth of twelve surviving children, to Clarence and Etta Baucom.

Mel enlisted as a private in the US Army in 1954 and served as a company clerk. While serving at Camp Beale in 1954, he met the love of his life, Janice Baker, at church. They married later that same year at the ripe ages of 20 and 17.

After serving in the Army, Mel began his 40 year career as an installer/technician for the Pacific Telephone Company. When not working on the job and into retirement, Mel spent his time tending to his large vegetable garden and his walnut orchard.

Mel is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Janice; three sons, Terry (Iris); Scott (Leslie); and Randy (Tracy); six grandchildren, Aaron (Eva Mae), Kyle, Jeffrey, Sean, Kelly and Kristin; seven surviving siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was a true "southern gentleman" who loved to read western novels and watch old western movies. Mel was a member of the Hallwood Community Church of the Nazarene.

All are invited to a celebration of life service at his church on Saturday, December 2nd, 2017, at 11am. A private graveside service will be held prior. Services are under the direction of Sierra View Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mel's name to the Hallwood Church.
