Nancy Alice Hosman Lawrie Obituary

Nancy Alice Hosman Lawrie passed away on June 9, 2016 at the age of 87. Nancy was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 12, 1928 to Lenore and Paul Hosman. She attended and graduated from Albion College in Albion, Michigan in 1950 with a degree in Biology. Nancy put her degree to use as a medical technologist for a doctor's office in Detroit. In 1951, Nancy married her childhood sweetheart James Harry Lawrie. They were married for 64 years.

Nancy soon found herself a Navy wife, moving duty station to duty station every few years. While they criss-crossed the country several times, they were never posted overseas. Nancy always said she wished the family would have had that experience. The family included a daughter and three sons.

The family arrived in Yuba City in 1965 following the end of naval service. Harry joined Marysville Medical Clinic and Nancy took on a host of activities, not the least of which was keeping a close eye on a bunch of growing kids! Nancy volunteered at the local YMCA Thrift shop, the kids' grammar school, Peach Bowl Little League, and ran the scholarship fund for the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa Women's Medical Auxiliary for many years. She also had an interest in genealogy. Nancy's interest and talent for investments allowed for Harry to retire early.

Nancy and Harry traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, and up and down the west coast. They traveled the entire length of Canada from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland in the travel trailer. They also enjoyed a month long trip to Great Britain, spending time in both Scotland and England sight-seeing and doing some genealogy work. They also loved to take the grandkids over to the coast or to the cabin near Dunsmuir, CA.

Nancy was predeceased by her son Kenneth. She outlived her husband Harry by a mere 21 days. She is survived by her daughter Krista Sloan (Terry) and sons Keith Lawrie and Kevin Lawrie (Regan) all of Yuba City. She also had six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Marilyn Hall of Plymouth, Michigan and a brother Paul Hosman of Kalamazoo, Michigan, along with seven nieces and nephews and all their families scattered across the country.

The family extends our gratitude and appreciation to Summerfield Senior Residence for the wonderful care they provided to our Mom. Thanks so much to Chantel Gildea and her staff who made Mom a part of their family. We also cannot say enough about the wonderful care and compassion provided to Mom by Sutter North Hospice. That compassion extended to our family as well.

Nancy requested that there be no public services. The family would like to suggest donations be sent in our mother's name and memory to Sutter North Hospice at 400 Plumas Blvd., # 115, Yuba City, CA 95991.
