Robert Francis Bradford Obituary

Robert Francis Bradford, died March 11, 2018, in Yuba City, CA, after a long illness. Bob was born February 20, 1930, in Mitchell, NE.

Bob's family moved to Yuba City in the 1940s. Bob graduated from Yuba City High School and Yuba College; he joined the State of California Division of Highways in 1953, working as a surveyor and planner; he saw the Division of Highways become CalTrans. Bob obtained his Bachelor's degree from CSU Chico and he became an Environmental Planner with CalTrans in the 1970s; he retired from CalTrans in 1992 after 39 years of service.

Bob was a Freemason in Enterprise Lodge #70 of Yuba City and active in the First Christian Church of Marysville for many years.

He loved music, especially Celtic and Country; sadly, his progressive loss of hearing deprived him of the pleasure. He enjoyed attending Highland Games. He loved football, even after a knee injury halted his playing and acting as referee for games.

Bob was born into a world in which farming was still done with heavy horses (his father was a blacksmith when Bob was a child) and he survived the dust storms in the Texas panhandle; he was an active part of the age of the automobile, saw the space age, the computer age, and the age of information. Bob lived in a world of rapid change.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Nellie Bradford (nee Thompson); brother, Bill Bradford; and his sister, Yvonne White.

He is survived by his son, Mark Bradford of Yuba City; daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Walt Witkowski of Loma Rica; two daughters, Elizabeth Bradford of Roseville and Kathleen Bradford of Tumwater; two grandsons, Joseph and Cameron Skower, and a great-granddaughter, Eva Skower.

A private cremation is planned. Memorials may be sent to Sutter Care at Home, Hospice of the Valley, PO Box 160045, Sacramento CA 95816. The family thanks the staff of The Couryard and The Fountains and Dr. Blanchard and the staff of Sutter Care and Hospice.
