Robert (Bob) Joseph Stassi, 91, was born June 23, 1925 in Sacramento, CA to Sam and Faye Stassi. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, in Yuba City, CA on December 12, 2016.

Bob graduated from Marysville High School in 1943. After his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1943-1946. Upon returning to Marysville, he attended Yuba College and the University of the Pacific in Stockton on a baseball scholarship. Bob was drafted by the professional baseball team, Hollywood Stars (Pittsburgh Pirates AAA Team) and played in the Sacramento Winter Baseball League; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Saint Petersburg, Florida; and Las Vegas, Nevada. He also played for the semi-professional Marysville Giants. He was inducted into the La Salle Club Baseball Hall of Fame and the Northern California Old Timers Sports Association Hall of Fame.

He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Marysville Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Lake Francis Resort, Peach Tree and Plumas Lake Golf Courses. Bob had many joys in his life including golf, but few greater than his passion for baseball.

He met the love of his life, Charlene Marchal, while she was sitting in the stands at the baseball park. In September, 1949, they were married and just celebrated their 67th anniversary and have resided in the Yuba-Sutter area.

Bob had worked for Rainbow Bread Company in Sacramento and was the owner of Stassi's Fourth Ward for 35 years, retiring in 1993.

Survivors include his loving wife, Charlene; his children, Robert Stassi Jr. (Kathy), Judy Curtis (Tim), Lori Mejia (Ed), Joanne Stassi, and Jim Stassi (Racquelle); his grandchildren, Jaime Curtis Marshall, Charlotte Mejia Daddow, Kelli Curtis, Timothy Lewis, Whitney Stassi Ruano, Brock Stassi, Sabrina Stassi, Max Stassi and Jake Stassi; great grandchildren, Macie Mejia, Taylor Daddow, Greyson Marshall and Jack Lewis. He was preceded in death by his infant grandchildren, Tiphanie Stassi and twins, Cameron and Brady Stassi.

On behalf of the family, we wish to express sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff at The Fountains and The Courtyard in Yuba City for their dedication and care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Yuba City High School Baseball Program, YCUSD Business Department, 750 Palora Ave, Yuba City, CA 95991.
