Roger L. Matteoli Obituary

January 8, 1934 - August 19, 2017

Roger L. Matteoli, passed away at the age of 83. He was a longtime resident of Yolo County. He graduated from Yuba City High School and attended UC Davis, majoring in Agriculture. In 1954 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. While serving in the military he met the love of his life, Beverley Gillis. They were married on July 27, 1957 and moved to the Sutter Basin where he started his family and farming career.

Roger served on many boards including Sutter Mutual Water Company, Sutter Basin Growers Cooperative, and Robbins Community Hall. He was also a member of numerous local organizations including the Elks, the Lions and the Italian Catholic Federation where he helped prepare many dinners.

He enjoyed playing cards and for many years played in the local Pedro Card Club. Roger also loved the outdoors and enjoyed many years with friends on hunting and fishing expeditions. Roger had a passion for duck hunting and was a founding member of the Chesapeake Gun Club where he spent the last ten years hunting with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Beverley Matteoli; parents, Leo Matteoli and Nella Matteoli Lorenzetti and step-father, Lorenzo Lorenzetti.

He is survived by his four children, Julie Farnham, Jon Sr. (Margaret) Matteoli, Lisa Matteoli, and Lance (Jennifer) Matteoli; his grandchildren, Matt (Elissa) Farnham, Jon Jr. (Skye) Matteoli, Jennifer and Michael Matteoli, Megan and Mario Matteoli; great-grandchildren, Liam and Natalie Farnham, and Jon III and Emma Matteoli; his sister, Maria (Jack) Martin; brothers-in-law, Don (Terri) Gillis and Bob Gillis; sister-in-law, Sharon Broadway and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to his two wonderful care givers, Arieta Servakula and Akosita Osbourne, for the extraordinary care they provided for him.

A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, August 29th, 2017, at 6:30pm at Woodland Funeral Chapel at 305 Cottonwood Street. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 30th, 2017, at 10:30am at Holy Rosary Church followed by a private burial service for the family. A celebration of Roger's life will immediately follow at Hotel Woodland.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Yolo County Food Bank, Woodland Healthcare Foundation Emergency Room or the donor's favorite charity.
