Virginia LaVerne Turner Obituary

Virginia LaVerne Turner, of Sacramento, formerly of Sutter, CA. departed this life January, 12, 2015 at Sutter Hospital in Sacramento, CA. She was born in Rosie, Arkansas on February 19, 1922. Virginia was the last surviving sibling of six children born to John and Esther Cook.

In 1939 she married Jesse R. Turner and for over 71 years they built their lives around their children and supported their activities. When she was a young wife in Oil Trough, Arkansas, a tornado picked up her house while she was in it and set it down in the street. Soon after they decided to move to California. She was a very warm and generous person. Virginia enjoyed her work and co-workers as a quality control supervisor at Sunsweet in Yuba City. She was an avid gardener, growing roses and cactus. She had a reputation for making delicious candy and desserts for special occasions. She was accomplished at crocheting and knitting She enjoyed vacation trips to Virginia, Washington D.C. and San Diego. She is survived by a daughter and son: Pamela (Don) Trost of Oakton, Virginia, and Greg (Patti) Turner of Sacramento CA, two grandchildren: Jacqueline (Justin) Schinnerer of New Rochelle, New York and David (Christin) Trost of Damascus, Oregon, three great grandchildren: Devin and Giselle Trost and Felicity Brennan.

Graveside services will be at Sutter Cemetery Tuesday Jan 20th at 11:00am.

A celebration of Life will be held at The Riverside Club House at 1:30 pm, 2633 Riverside Blvd. Sacramento, CA.
