William Ira (Bill) Glines Obituary
William (Bill) Ira Glines
William (Bill) Ira Glines, 89 years of age, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family in his home on Friday morning, June 12th.

Born on October 3rd, 1925 in Xenia, Illinois to Robert Bruce and Ada Glines. His family moved to Southern California where he attended Compton Elementary, Enterprise High School and Compton Jr. College.

Shortly after the outbreak of World War II, Bill, like many other courageous young men and women, misrepresented his age and joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He quickly rose to the rank Boatswains Mate Second Class. Bill survived some of the most intense and fierce combat conditions the war would offer. He served with honor and distinction until the end of the war.

Upon discharge from the Navy, Bill returned home to his family who had relocated to Grants Pass, Oregon. There he met a 17 year old fiery redhead named Barbara Jordan. After a whirlwind romance, they married in Reno, Nevada. In 1947, Bill and Barbara settled in Yuba City where they built their family and live happily together for over 66 years. He discovered a fulfilling career in floor covering where he would was widely known and respected as a craftsman and an artist who trained and mentored dozens of young men who became very successful in our community.

In 1979, he fulfilled his dream of store ownership when he joined Glines Floors as a partner with his son Bruce. They were later joined by his son Michael. After Bruce left the family business to serve in ministry as a pastor, Bill and Michael worked together for years building Glines Carpet One into one of the finest floor covering firms in the area. Bill continued to work with his son Michael until his passing.

Bill was an avid gardener. He was a passionate student of the medical sciences, astronomy, literature, and Christian theology. He also designed and built two family homes. He and his wife Barbara were both archers and were founding members of the Golden Feather Bowmen. He was involved in community service efforts and church ministries. He also played on many local sports teams.

Bill and Barbara were dedicated followers of Christ. Throughout the years, they were members of First Christian Church, Calvary Christian Center, Crossroads Church and Sutter Community Church.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ada Glines, sister Juanita and his beloved wife, Barbara. He is survived by his three brothers Robert Glines Jr. (Phyllis) of Chico, Brooks Glines (Alice) of Marysville, and Stuart Glines (Barbara) of Coalinga. He left his five children; Gail Hannan of Chico, Laurie Wells (Jeff) of Houston, Texas, Bruce Glines (Shelley) of Yuba City, Craig Glines of Milledgville, Georgia and Michael Glines (Terri) of Hallwood. He also leaves 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Dad, you were an incredible man and an amazing father, you will be missed...
