Yvonne O'Connor Obituary

Our beloved mother Yvonne O'Connor of Olivehurst, CA died on Feb. 23, 2016 at the age of 74 in her home surrounded by the people who loved her.

Yvonne was born to Mary and Edward Bennett of East London, England. While Yvonne's mother, Mary, was pregnant with her, their city was under heavy aerial bombardment by Nazi Germany, historically known as the Blitz. Mary Bennett, along with three other children, was evacuated outside the city to one of the many evacuation centers during WWII. During this time, Yvonne's father, Edward Bennett, was serving his country as a Sapper in the British Royal Army within the European theater against Nazi Germany and its allies.

On Sept 16th, 1941, Yvonne was born in an evacuation center located at Hazelwood Castle in Yorkshire, England. She grew up in East London in an area near to what is known as the east lane. Her family, like most families during that time, were destitute from the ravages of WWII having suffered intensive fire bombings. This left Yvonne and her siblings to play among the ruins of their city as children.

It was in 1958, at the age of 17, that Yvonne met the love her life, an American Airman, Robert R. Mynhier, who was on a weekend furlough in London. On Sept 5th, 1959, Yvonne and Robert Mynhier of Middle Town, OH were married in London, England. In 1961, while she was pregnant in England with her first son Robert E. Mynhier, Yvonne's husband requested orders to the US so that their son could be born in the US. They subsequently moved to Dover AFB Delaware that year where their oldest son Robert E. Mynhier was born, followed by their second son, Troy L. Mynhier.

After completing a successful tour at Dover AFB, Robert was reassigned to Eielson AFB, Alaska where both Yvonne and Robert enjoyed the outdoors with their two children. While assigned to Eielson, Yvonne gave birth to their third child, Tracey, in 1965. In 1967, Robert and Yvonne were again reassigned to Beale AFB, CA.

Shortly after arriving at Beale AFB, their second son, Troy, was struck with Leukemia and passed away on Oct. 12, 1968 at the age of 7 years old. In 1970, Yvonne gave birth to her third son, Terry L. Mynhier. The following year, Robert was assigned unaccomnied orders to Utaphao AFB in Thailand with a B-52 bomber squadron in support of the war effort in Vietnam. While Robert was oversees, Yvonne completed her study at the Marysville Beauty College located at 407 D Street. After Robert's return from Thailand to Beale AFB, Yvonne gave birth to her last child, Tyson Mynhier, in 1973.

In 1974, her husband Robert was re-assigned yet again to Neuburke, Germany. After serving 2 years in Germany, both Yvonne and Robert decided that it was time that he retire from the Air Force and begin a new chapter in their life. In 1976, they returned to the Yuba County area where Yvonne was employed at a number of restaurants such as Nicolette's while Robert worked at SBS as an inside manager. On Oct 27, 1983 tragedy once again struck, and Yvonne's husband, Robert, passed away at the age of 45.

During the 80s, Yvonne moved to the Bay Area and opened an Italian food restaurant in Moraga, CA by the name of Bastreri's. After several years, she returned to Yuba County where she purchased the Marysville Uriz Hotel & Restaurant. In later years, she remodeled the upper floors of the Uriz Hotel which she operated as a rooming house until her death. During her ownership of the Uriz, she also purchased a number of other investment properties.

Yvonne was a self-taught pianist and loved gardening, interior decorating, remodeling homes, and long car rides along the coast. But what she loved most was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a strong, loving mother who endured much during her long life. She will be remembered most for her generosity, loving, kind heart, quick witty humor and her undying love for her children and grandchildren. Although gone, she will not be forgotten. Her legacy lives on in her children and grandchildren.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her mother, father, and brother, Teddy Bennett, of London, England. She was also preceded in death by her young son, Troy, first husband Robert, and second husband, Brian O'Connor. She is survived by two sisters, Ruby Sarver of Foster City CA and June North of Chico CA; sons Robert, Terry and Tyson Mynhier; and daughter, Tracey Mynhier Daniel, also of Olivehurst, CA. She has 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A private memorial will be held in her honor.
