Maria Huefner Obituary

Maria Huefner, was born on May 12, 1935 in Stangendorf, in what is now the Czech Republic . There she lived with her parents and 4 brothers until after World War II. In 1946, the family was forced out of their home to make room for Czech nationals. Since they were considered Germans - the family was placed on a train and transported to Germany where they lived in a displaced persons camp. After many months they were sent to Laufenselden, a small town northwest of Frankfurt, Germany. Starting her "second life" was living with her parents and four siblings in one room. After graduating from the local school, she worked as housekeeper and waitress in various locations. Her employer sent her to a culinary school where she learned to prepare delectable dishes. It was during that time she met her future husband Udo. It was love at first sight! They married in August 1960, in her then home town Laufenselden, Germany. Nine days later they traveled to California. This started her "third life", a American MILITARY wife and most amazing wife, mother and Oma. The largest barrier was having little or no knowledge of the English language. She was very proud when she passed the tests resulting in United States citizenship in 1962. During the next 19 years they moved to Mississippi, Beale AFB, England and Germany. Maria was a stay at home mom and made the house a home full of love. She worked part time as a Cafeteria worker and teacher's aid at Beale Air force Base and in a gift shop selling mostly German Hummel Figurines. In 1979, after military life, the family settled in Yuba City. They attended St. Isidore Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, (they celebrated their 50TH Anniversary in August last year) daughter Birgit Spencer, son-in law Robert Spencer and grand children Jennifer and Jessica Spencer; son Herbert Huefner , daughter-in-law Christine Huefner and grandchildren William, Samantha and Jonathan Huefner and 13 nieces and nephews in Germany. She was preceded in death by her parents and 4 brothers. Maria was a member of the St. Isidore Catholic Church Young Ladies Institue and Sutter Lodge #36 of Order of Herman Sons. Maria was a cheerful giver of love and affection. Everything she did was in love and compassion whether it was playing with her grandkids, being an amazing and doting wife, cooking delicious german food, teaching grandkids german and crocheting, she never said "I don't have time for you", taking food to friends in need, and was also the best at giving hugs. Her faith was unshakable and Jesus shined through her. She passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on April 16, 2011. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the St. Isidore Catholic Church Young Ladies Institute, 220 Clark Avenue, Yuba City, CA 95991 or the Sutter County American Cancer Society. Rosary will be held 7:00PM Monday, April 25, 2011 at Chapel of the Twin Cities, 715 Shasta, Yuba City. Viewing will be 10AM Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at St. Isidore Catholic Church with the Funeral Mass following at 11AM. Send Condolences at www.appealdemocrat.com

Dear Huefner Family,
So hard too believe that it is now 12 years
Since Maria left us on her trip to Heaven.
We had such fond memories of Maria, and now it is 6 months since my Gretel has left us and I am sure she is with Maria in Gods
Heaven.
It is a miracle that I came across this page today
about Maria, God works in amazing ways.
I am sure Gretel, Maria, Henrietta and all
the other members of OdHS, that have passed have started their own lodge in
Heaven. We had so many great times here
on earth and why not continue in heaven.
I still long for those great times and now that my honey is gone, it is all over.
Just waiting for my time to join everyone
in Gods Heaven.

Dear Udo, Dear Birgit and Herbert,

By chance I found out that Mary is no longer with you. I am very sad about it. She was a very loving woman and I remember your laughter and the good times with and for you ...
I wish you all a lot of strength to us and she sees us from above to determine with my dad and Aunt Gertrud

i thought about you today, i wanted to call you but couldn't.
it's been over 6 months since you have left us but the wound is still fresh. i miss you more than words can describe, you were one of the most important people in my life, you helped shape me into the person i am today. i would give anything in the world just to see you again.
never again will i get to taste your cooking, feel your hugs or hear your voice. my mind keeps telling me this is all a bad dream and that you are still with us, but my heart knows you are with god now.

Dear Oma
I will always miss u.We will miss ur cooking, planting in the garden, and everything about u. German may have not been something I wanted to learn but u always tried to still teach me. There were things that I did learn for u. I wish I would had learned more from u.
But I will always remember everything u did teach me. One u I learn the most from u was when u said u would do something u should do it an dont care what people cared.

Not a day goes by that we don't think of Marie, we read passages from the Book she sent Gretel just days before her passing. The book was to help Gretel to get over her surgery, Marie's prayers were answered, Gretel is getting better and now we are praying for Marie. We miss her dearly,

Oma,
Right from the very start you practically raised me for the 1st 6 years of my life, taught me how to ride a bike, speak german and be very organized.
you were a amazing cook and ALWAYS made every family get together feel like christmas, I'll never forget all the trips weve taken, or even just time we spent at the house.
your departure still has me in a haze, I can still hear your laugh and when you would always tell me I need to gain weight.
Im glad to have had the privledge to be your grandson, and share all of our wonderful memories.
You are truly missed more than you realize.
Someday I will see you again, till then you will always be on my mind and in my heart, for when you left, you took a piece of me with you

Maria, I do not know where to start? I hear or read everyday about great famous people and the great things they had said or done in their lives. But, you will never hear or read about all of the great things that Maria had done her entire life.Maria, was not famous nor a celebrity, not, unless you had ever met, or knew Maria. Right away you knew there was something special about Maria, the way she smiled, the way she spoke, the way she loved and the way she cared. Oh sure everyone says they have or had the greatest Mom or Grandmother, but i am here to tell you none of them would not even hold a candle to Maria, including my own mother.Once in a lifetime you met that one special person that God made and sent to earth Maria was that person. She was unconditional and relentless in her love, affection, committment to her family and friends. She never had an ill word or thought for anyone, she always would pray for the sinners and praise God and ask for his hand to help that certain person in need.If you ever met Maria you too would be in disbelief that one person could be so rightous and loving.I used to wait for Maria to call me and invite me over for dinner for her famous meatloaf or tacos, there was always too much and i always ate too much.
Maria, was the perfect mom & wife & mother-in law, always caring, understanding, nurturing, fair, honest, committed, focused, loving, trusting, serving, spritual, compassionate, open minded, supportive.
My sweet Maria, I already ache for your special smile and touch.
I have nothing I can say for the loss we all have suffered God has lost one of it's shepards here on earth.
There will never be another Oma or Maria,my guess is the lord needed you for a special project that he felt only you could handle it.
I am sure you will be there when i arrive with the rest of the family. Save me some meatloaf & tacos I am sure God will understand .
I LOVE YOU MARIA. YOU WILL BE ALWAYS BE ON MY MIND & MY PRAYS.

My mom was the best mom, oma and wife. We miss her beyond words. Our life will never be the same but we must continue. She always put others first and loved us beyond measure. Her faith was so strong. She taught us so much. She never said I don't have time to visit, phone call or play with the grandkids. She was a perfect example of what love is. God does not make mistakes...he works all things for good. My mom was such a blessing to us and others. One day I will be able to hug her again with a great big smile!

I love you and miss you so much mom!!
