He is survived by his sister Judy Stover and husband, Jim of Houston, Texas, five special nieces (Dian, Colleen, Dani, Jerri, and Carol), one special nephew (Jimmy), several great nieces and nephews, loving cousins, friends, and caregivers.

The family would like to thank all of the dedicated and compassionate doctors and nurses at Sanford, and the entire staff at Good Samaritan Village for all their care and support. A very SPECIAL THANK YOU goes to Coral and Dwayne Olson who were Butch's main caregivers for so many years and who always went above and beyond to make sure he was well taken care of.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at First Lutheran Church, 327 S. Dakota Avenue, Sioux Falls. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the funeral services. Interment will be that afternoon at Bruce Cemetery, Bruce, South Dakota.

I have had the priveledge of knowing Butch for 20 years... I remember when I was a college intern at the Wellness Center, he was one of the first members I got to know. What an inspiration he was... no matter the obstacles that life might have placed in Butch's past... he never let them stop him. He came here faithfully to do his exercise, always had a positive attitude and really seemed to treasure getting to know people. He always was interested in other people's lives.. and remembered the details...Butch, my friend, I hope that you are now skipping effortlessly on heaven's clouds and reveling in the world's amazing colors. Your friend always, Love Tami

I have missed seeing Butch in the halls at the Wellness Center as we passed each other on our way to our workouts. He was always so cheerfull and a bright start to my early mornings. He will be missed and always in our hearts. We were blessed for being a very small part of his day.

As a long time member of the Sanford Wellness Center, I knew who Butch was, but unfortunately I never knew him personally. But he was an inspiration to me......when I would come to the center early in the morning, I would often see him walking diligently around the track, many times in the company of a staff person. I would think to myself, wow.....if he can do this and always have a smile on his face, I can too! Without ever having the priviledge of knowing your brother, he was truly an inspiration to me and many others!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Butch certainly was "one of a kind" and as Director of the SD Rehab. Center for the Blind, I admired his independence. He had a lot of "grit" and did not let much stop him. He was a valued employee of SD Industies for the Blind.

The staff and members of the Sanford Wellness Center will miss having our daily visits with Butch. Due to his health he hadn't been to see us in quite a while but weekly he was asked about and spoken of.
