Hilbert Bartels
Hilbert Bartels, 89 died Thursday, May 1, 2014 at his rural Davis home under hospice care. He was born near Davis in 1925. In 1946 he married Daloris Otten. She died in 2010. Hilbert farmed near Davis, was police officer for the communities of Davis, Chancellor and Lennox. He had also owned and operated his own collection agency. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Chancellor. Survivors: children: Lowell (Paula) Bartels, Beresford and Diane (Stan) Lorenz, Harrisburg; five grandchildren: Todd (Shawn) Johnson, Kim Johnson, Brent (Emily) Bartels, Janey (Eric) Case and Kristen (Geoff) Clark; five great-grandchildren; siblings: Roger (Jan) Bartels, Sioux Falls, Annetta Buseman, Davis, Mildred Neeman, Chancellor and Viola (Elmer) Gerdes, Brandon. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 5 at the First Baptist Church, Chancellor. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox with the family present. Online go to dindotklusmann.com

Had an encounter or two with Mr. Bartels when I was a teenager and he was a police officer in Lennox. I've never forgotten how kind and understanding he was each time when he didn't have to be. Condolences to his family.
