Amanda Smith Obituary

Amanda K. Hoffmann Smith

RAPID CITY | Amanda K. Hoffmann Smith, 34, died suddenly Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Huron Regional Hospital.

Amanda was born July 7, 1983 in Sioux Falls, SD to Jeff and Laura (Schneider) Hoffmann. Amanda and her family moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1986. She attended R. E. Tobler Elementary school and J. Harold Brinley Middle school. In 1996 Amanda's family moved to Rapid City, SD. Amanda was a student at Southwest Middle School and graduated from Steven's High School in 2001. She graduated college in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Amanda moved to Mountain View, California after graduation and was a manager for Target Corporation, Palo Alto, CA. She left Target Corporation a year later to work for Leland J. Stanford University as Program Coordinator for the graduate school of business. She married Andrew W. Smith on May 22, 2010 in Rapid City, SD. Andrew and Amanda lived in California for two years before returning to Rapid City, SD in 2011. Amanda earned her second degree, in elementary education and began her teaching career at South Park Elementary School. Andrew and Amanda divorced in 2016 but remain close friends.

"Panda Bear' had a smile that lit up a room. She loved her students and always was seeking new ways to inspire them. Amanda loved her family and friends; she fought for injustice and went out of her way to 'do the right thing.'

She is survived by her parents, Jeff and Laura Hoffmann, Rapid City, SD; brother Ben Hoffmann, Vermillion, SD; maternal grandmother, Mrs. James B. (Elaine) Schneider, Huron, SD.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be Monday, July 24 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Blvd., Rapid City, SD. The family will be present.
