Doris Nelson
Doris Nelson, 81, died Friday, April 8, 2016 at Avera McKennan Hospital.
Family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Wednesday, April 13, at Miller Funeral Home-Downtown, 507 S. Main Ave.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, April 14, at First Lutheran Church, 327 S. Dakota Ave.
Doris Onalee Rollag, daughter of Orville and Rose (Sanderson) Rollag, was born July 22, 1934 on the family farm in Nobles County, MN. She graduated from Rock Rapids, IA High School in 1952; after high school, worked for Northwestern Bell in the Business Office, and she moved to Sioux Falls and attended some college at Augustana College and later at Mount Marty College in Watertown. She earned her Bachelors of Arts Degree from University of Sioux Falls at age 60. She lived in Lead, SD for a short time before her marriage.
Doris was united in marriage with Diedrik (Dan) Nelson on December 23, 1956 in Rock Rapids, IA. His calling brought them around the region, they lived in St. Paul, MN, California, Groton, SD, Pierre, SD, Watertown, SD, Brandon, SD and coming home to Sioux Falls in 1998.
Doris was a member of First Lutheran Church, PEO Chapter DB for many years, First Lutheran Church Women, and a member of First Lutheran Choir. Rev. Dan was pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown from 1978 to 1988 where Doris was a member of the Grace Lutheran Ladies Group, and the Grace Lutheran church choir. Doris also enjoyed playing the French Horn and was a member of the Watertown Municipal Band.
Grateful for having shared Doris's life are her husband, Rev. Diedrik (Dan) Nelson, Sioux Falls, SD; three children, Christopher (Belinda) Nelson, Sioux Falls, SD, Jonathan Nelson, Sioux Falls, SD, Stephanie (Darren Gustafson) Nelson, Garretson, SD; five siblings, Dwayne (Helen) Rollag, Sioux Falls, SD, David Lee Rollag, Luverne, MN, Darlene VanDeKop, Des Moines, IA, Sharon Snuttjer, Clive, IA, Rhea Jean (Jack) McBride, White Bear Lake, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Donovan Rollag.

I refer to my time in Pierre as my Camelot years and the Nelsons were a HUGE part of that. Doris will be greatly missed and my love and prayers are with the family. Heidi Rosin

I enjoyed knowing Doris during our years together in Watertown. She was a gentle and gracious soul. May God provide you with comfort at this time of her death. She will be missed. God bless you all.
