Ada Marie Yakal Obituary
Ada Marie Yakal

Our dear mother and friend to many, Ada Marie Yakal, died unexpectedly on December 28, 2016, in Roseville, MN.

Ada was born on May 20, 1928, to Adolph and Marie Oyen, who made their home on a Century Farm in Baltic, SD, near Sioux Falls. As a young, happy child, she did chores and loved to swim, skate, sew, and read.

Upon graduating from Augustana Academy in Canton, SD, Ada moved to Sioux Falls and got a job at Sunshine Insurance, where she met our dad, Philip Yakal, a Lincoln, NE native. They married on July 22, 1950, and had three daughters (us): Kristi (John) Jacobsen, Susan Nelson, and Kathy (George Campbell) Yakal. She had one grandson, Trevor Nelson.

During their 56 years of marriage, Phil's job and military duties took them to Battle Creek, MI, Coon Rapids, MN, and Normal, IL, where Ada is remembered by many people.

Mom's priorities were her family, church, friends, and music. She was an organist at her home church, West Nidaros Lutheran Church, and later accompanied many musical groups and played in a handbell choir. In everything she did, Mom liked to comfort people and help make them happy.

Phil died in 2006. Ada also lost three siblings: Bertha May, Gladys, and Nels. Her baby brother David and sister-in-law Joanne survive her, as do many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Mom's ashes will be buried with those of Phil, the love of her life, at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Memorials would be best sent to the or the Salvation Army.

Ada Yakal's life on earth ended three days after Christmas, but her memory is etched on the hearts of those who loved her.
