Alice Larson

Alice M. Larson, 90, of Sioux Falls, and formerly of Canistota, passed away on September 11, 2016 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 14 at Zion Lutheran Church in Canistota. Visitation with family present will begin one hour prior.

Alice Parker was born near Chancellor, SD on January 7, 1926 to William and Pearl Parker. She graduated from Canistota High School. She married Nuel Larson in 1946 and together they farmed near Lake Vermillion until their retirement in the early 1980's.

Alice loved collecting and selling antiques, especially dolls and Depression glass, and spent many hours browsing rummage sales and auctions in search of treasures. Her doll collection was extensive and she displayed them at many clubs and events in the area over the years. Her greatest joy, however, was in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she and Nuel made every effort to attend almost every school program or activity even if it meant traveling to several towns in one day. Birthdays and Christmas were important - even in her last years she always made sure every grandchild got a birthday card and at Christmas time she would inquire about a special interest of each one so she could personally shop for just the right gift.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Nuel, and is survived by her children, Diana Brandvold, Randy Larson, Sandy Farley (Joe) and Mary Rennich (Jerry). Also having shared her life are eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, her sister, Frances, and several nieces and nephews.
