Anna Olson

Anna Olson, Sioux Falls, SD died November 25, 2015, in Sioux Falls. She was 90.

Anna Louise (Jones) Olson was born January 3, 1925, in Rapid City, SD to Harry Wells and Wilma Anna (Hall) Jones. She died at her home at Trail Ridge on 11-25-15, surrounded by family and the most wonderful staff and caregivers the family could imagine.

Anna grew up in Rapid City, graduating from Rapid City High School in May, 1942. She attended Western Maryland College in Westminster, Md from 1944 to 1946. Transferring to Sioux Falls College (now USF), she graduated in May 1948. She married Robert G. Olson of Chicago following graduation and they moved to Chicago. After her husband graduated from the University of Illinois School of Medicine, they moved back to Sioux Falls.

Anna was active in the Sioux Valley Hospital Auxiliary, the YWCA, and the First Baptist Church. She worked at Sioux Falls College at the Center for Women and later managed the bookstore. She loved her positions at the college which put her in touch with the entire campus community.

Anna was loved by everyone who met her; she was the most gentle, kind, patient and loving person imaginable. She was the best listener, and made everyone feel so special. Anna filled her life with the things that meant so much to her; her family, church, flower gardening, USF football and adding to her bell and frog collection.

Anna is survived by her sons, James (Marcia) of Gig Harbor, Wa, John (Connie) of Sioux Falls, Jeffrey of Minneapolis; daughters, Judith Klatt of Sioux Falls, Jennifer Olson of Blaine, Mn; niece, Karen Brokenleg (Jack) of Sioux Falls; nephew, Harry Engberg (Jeanette) of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, James Olson (Jaime) of Cottage Grove, Mn, Jason Olson (Shawna) of Gig Harbor, Wa and Julianna Haven (Nate) of Washington state, Michael Klatt, Robert Olson (Amy), Catherine Olson, Nicholas Brokenleg (Annie), Anna Brokenleg-Keller (Aaron) all of Sioux Falls, and Sarah Brokenleg, of Minneapolis; and 10 great- grandchildren.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

There will be a memorial service at First Baptist Church beginning 11:00am Saturday, November 28, 2015, followed by a time of fellowship. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dr. Robert and Anna Olson scholarship fund at USF, 1101 W 22nd St, Sioux Falls, SD 57105; First Baptist Church, 1401 S. Covell Avenue Sioux Falls, SD 57105; or the Sioux Falls Humane Society, 3720 E Benson Rd, Sioux Falls, SD 57104.
