Ardis Monroe Obituary
Ardis Monroe

Ardis Monroe, 91, of Canistota passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Funeral services are pending for early October.

Ardis Monroe was born on a farm near Roswell, SD on March 26, 1924 to Wesley and Dessie Mette. She graduated in 1942 from Fedora High School. Ardis grew up during the depression and could tell many stories of the grasshoppers and dust storms of that era. She worked for the AAA farm program and the rationing board during WWII. Ardis was united in marriage to Darrell Monroe on February 17, 1945. After Darrell's discharge from the US Navy, they returned to Canistota and lived there the remainder of their lives. They managed the Ortman Hotel Café for 15 years. After the café, Ardis went to work at the Ortman Chiropractic Clinic. She worked there for 25 years and never missed a day for being ill. She and Darrell went to Arizona for several winters after retiring. They had two daughters, Cynthia and Claudia. Ardis was a member of the United Church of Canistota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Darrell, two sisters Agnes (Ray) Newman, Alice (Phil) Burke, five brothers, Henry (Lorraine), Robert (Thelma), Wilmer (Fern), Richard (Helen), and Howard (Viola).

She leaves to mourn: her daughters, Cynthia (Wayne) Beisel and Claudia (Mel) Dick, four grandchildren, Cory, Melissa, Justin and Hillary, six great-grandchildren, John Carl, Griffan, Hailey, Riley, Jace and Evelyn Rose, and several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Barbara Merritt.
