Bertha Rieb Obituary
Bertha Rieb

Bertha Rieb passed away from this life into the presence of her Lord and Savior at the age of 97 at the Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage on Saturday, November 21, 2015.

Bertha was born on a farm near Vananda, MT on February 26, 1918 to Fredrick and Emelia (Pietz) Fastnacht. On October 31, 1955 she was united in marriage to Arthur Rieb. God blessed them with two daughters, Cynthia Marie and Shirley Ann. She farmed with her husband near Parkston, SD until his death in 1961. She then moved to Sioux Falls and worked part time as a cook at the North American Baptist Seminary and as a housekeeper. Bertha had a special love for children and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School starting at the age of 14 in the Parkston Baptist Church and the former Northside Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church in Sioux Falls well into her 70's. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Often she decorated the sanctuary with flowers from her garden. Bertha was an excellent cook and well-known for her pies and kuchen.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Adeline Schnabel, her twin sister, Emma Winckler, and her three brothers, Adolph Fastnacht, Ruben Fastnacht, and Edwin Fastnacht. Grateful for sharing her life are her two daughters, and their husbands, Cynthia and Brad Friez, and Shirley and Larry Pitts, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Heritage Funeral Home, located at 4800 S. Minnesota Avenue on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family present 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Trinity Baptist Church, located at 2400 West 18th Street.
