Betty Ann Schroeder, 82, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away, surrounded by her family, on Friday, June 2, 2017 at USD/Sanford Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at East Side Baptist Church, 6101 E. 49th St. Visitation, with the family present, will be Monday, June 5, 2017, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at East Side Baptist Church.

Betty Ann Melby, daughter of Bennett and Ella (Arndt) Melby, was born June 18, 1934 in Canby, MN. She grew up in Pipestone, MN where she graduated from Pipestone High School in Class of 1952.

Betty was united in marriage with Lyle Schroeder on August 29, 1954 in Pipestone, MN. They lived in Sioux Falls, SD from 1954-1958, Minneapolis from 1958 - 1960 and returned to share time between their homes in Sioux Falls and Lake Madison, until present.

Betty dedicated her entire life to her family and serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her greatest delights were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many a cookie were baked at grandma Betty's counter and every child was prayed for and loved unconditionally.

Another passion of Bettys was growing flowers, plants and vegetables. She worked tirelessly at her home and cabin to make sure the yards were beautiful. Her green thumb was envied.

Betty was a true "Do it yourself" person. Her energy was endless while working on a project. She could paint, tile, hammer, and use a power tool like a professional. Her efforts turned a home and summer home into a showcase where she could shower her guests with her own special version of hospitality. Anyone who entered felt her warmth, but especially her adored family. Her happiest moments were spent at her Lake Madison home cooking and providing for her family.

Many winters Lyle and Betty spent vacationing in Grand Cayman. By far her favorite, was the year Betty and Lyle turned 70 years old, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by treating their children and grandchildren to a vacation in the Caymans.

Betty was a farm girl, devoted daughter, impeccable dresser, seamstress, a leader in bible study fellowship, PEO member, and in the eyes of her family the First Lady of Sioux Valley Hospital.

Until her last breath, Betty remained a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She held onto her conservative values and Christian faith.

Our family is heartbroken, but we know we have gained a Guardian Angel.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lyle; two daughters, Sandra (Kevin) Hildring, Sheila (Jeff) Parks, one son Jeffrey (Jill) Schroeder; Eight grandchildren, Nick (Amy) Hildring, Ben (Kim) Hildring, Anna Hildring, Austin (Becky) Parks, Alison (Carl) Serck, Ashton Parks, Jared (Jasmine) Schroeder, Jacob (Nicole) Schroeder; Six great grandchildren, Evan Hildring, Owen Hildring, Madison Parks, Dillon Parks, Finley Schroeder, and Blakely Serck; and one brother Wallace (Lorraine) Melby; and sister-in-law Joyce (Larry) Goff.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bennett and Ella Melby.
