Betty Donovan

Betty Donovan passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Dougherty Hospice House.

Betty Booth Donovan was born January 7, 1928, to Martha and Earl Booth of Orson, Iowa. Her early years were spent on the farm with her parents and three brothers. Following the death of her parents, Betty and her brothers moved to Spencer, Iowa, to live with her mother's sister, Mary and husband, Arthur Van Steenburg.

Betty graduated from Spencer High School in 1946, then, entered Morningside College and the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing to be an R.N. She graduated in 1949 and married John Donovan. They had three children, Arthur (Gayle) Donovan, William (Kari) Donovan and Becky (Greg) Walsh. She moved to Sioux Falls in 1952 and spent many years working at Sioux Valley Hospital.

In 1960, they opened their own business called Donovan's Hobby Center that later became known as Donovan's Hobby & Scuba Center.

Betty has been a member of First United Methodist church these past 58 years. She has been an active United Methodist Women's member, Church Circle member, plus, she helped serve funeral lunches and Wednesday night suppers. Betty also served on several church committees through the years.

Betty has been an active auxiliary member for Sunnycrest Retirement Center for the past several years.

She is survived by her spouse, John, children, Arthur (Gayle) Donovan, William (Kari) Donovan, and Becky (Greg) Walsh; step-daughter, Lorraine Groves; grandchildren, Jason (Kelly) Donovan, Ryan Donovan, James Walsh, Erin Domel Marty Jolley; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth Booth, Carroll (Thelma) Booth, and Joseph (Pam) Booth. She was preceded in death by her parents, aunt and uncle, Mary and Arthur Van Steenburg, and sister-in-law, Marion Booth.

Funeral services will be 1:00pm Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation will be 3:00-8:00pm Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Heritage Funeral Home with family present to greet friends from 6:00-8:00pm. www.heriagesfsd.com
