Billie L. Greenfield Obituary
Billie L. Greenfield

Billie Lea Greenfield, age 76, passed away September 18, 2017 in St. Paul, MN after fighting a valiant battle against Alzheimer's disease. Like all challenges in her life, including breast cancer, she approached this one with her same tenacity, toughness and courage to the very end.

Billie was born in Sioux Falls, SD, August 15, 1941 to William and Connie (Zinn) Lutterman. She was raised on a farm near Tea, SD before graduating from Lennox High School and the University of South Dakota as a Phi Beta Pi sorority sister.

A strong, intelligent, and independent woman, Billie was a natural leader and a mentor to many because of her willingness to listen and ability to share words of encouragement.

Billie's career span included high school English teacher, co-owner of Wass Furniture Store (Beresford, SD), and fundraiser. As Vice President of Development for Lutheran Social Services South Dakota for twenty years, Billie raised over $20 million dollars to support development and foundation activities, helping change the lives of those receiving support services. An active member of her community, Billie served on the Beresford School Board, as a volunteer in her church, and as a Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce Diplomat.

Billie loved to read and travel. An excellent conversationalist, she shared her opinions willingly and expected you to do the same. Her smile lit up a room and her sparkling eyes assured you that you were appreciated and loved. That sparkle was strongest around her three children and their families all of whom brought her great joy.

Grateful for having shared Billie's life are her children, Dan (Andrea) Greenfield, St. Paul, MN, Tim (Jodi) Greenfield, Denver, CO and Stacy Greenfield (Chris Ward), St. Paul, MN; three grandchildren, Emma and Henry Greenfield and Augustus Ward; a sister, Judy (Vernon) VanDerhule, Yankton, SD and precious extended family.

Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Friday, September 22, 2017, at Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Ave. with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD.
