C. John Egan Jr.

Age 86, of Sun City, AZ, died July 9, 2017. Preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Beatrice (Cleveland) Egan and brother Dallas. John grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD, in 1953. He served two years in the U.S. Counter Intelligence Corps, stationed in Tokyo, Japan. He worked 34 years for the Sioux Falls Argus Leader retiring in 1989. He was the recipient of numerous awards including South Dakota Sports Writer of the Year eight times. He was inducted into the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame (2002) and the South Dakota Hall of Fame (2003). From 1971-1990, he produced a nationally syndicated radio football show with sportscaster Ray Scott. He authored two books. He was a dedicated volunteer for many organizations in Sioux Falls and Sun City. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice (Keiser) Egan; daughter Jodie (Scott) Flolid of Shorewood, MN; granddaughter Maggie (Matt) Dooner of St. Louis Park, MN; grandson Seth Flolid of Beloit, WI; brother Doug (Rose Ann) Egan of Apple Valley, MN; sister Nancy (Barry) Pelissier of Glendale, CA; sister-in-law, Cathy Egan of Moorhead, MN; brother-in-law Bill (Karen) Keiser of Sioux Falls; and many other relatives and friends. A service was held in Sun City and a celebration of life will be held in Minneapolis at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Augustana University in Sioux Falls, American Lutheran Church of Sun City, or donor's favorite charity.
